Request
Paul & Kathy contacted us using the request form on our website outlining their concern about an eroding hillside at their lake house in Ohatchee, Alabama. The steep, 100-foot-wide slope was losing soil and presented challenges for establishing and maintaining vegetation.

Assess
We began with an on-site assessment to understand the unique challenges of the hillside. Our team formally measured the site, evaluated the slope and existing conditions, and identified the key factors affecting erosion and stability. This information allowed us to develop a strategic approach for installing the Dirt Locker system and establishing a successful planting plan.
Design
Detailed Design
Using the information gathered during our site assessment, we developed a detailed plan for the hillside installation. The design mapped out the strategic placement of the Dirt Lockers and included a comprehensive plant palette selected for the site conditions. A planting schematic was also created to clearly identify the location of each plant, providing a detailed roadmap for project installation.

Review & Finalize
We met with Paul and Kathy by video conference to review the site measurements, detailed design, Dirt Locker placement, and planting plan. Following their review and approval of the design, we prepared the formal proposal and contract and submitted them for final approval, ensuring everyone was aligned before moving into the installation phase.

Build
Planning
Once the project was approved, we moved into detailed project planning and coordination. We worked with our vendors to order all necessary materials, sourced and scheduled delivery of the plants, and coordinated dirt and mulch blow-in services. Careful scheduling and coordination ensured that materials, vendors, and installation teams were ready when needed to keep the project moving efficiently.

Installation
With the plan finalized and materials on site, we carefully installed the Dirt Lockers across the hillside, taking care to maintain proper placement and level each unit for effective erosion control. We then installed the selected plant material, ensuring each plant was healthy, properly positioned, and given the best possible conditions to establish and flourish. Throughout the installation, attention to detail was key to creating a stable and sustainable hillside landscape.

Post-Installation Review
Once the installation was complete, we walked the finished project with Paul and Kathy to review the work and ensure everything met their expectations. We provided guidance on watering and ongoing maintenance to help the plants establish successfully and keep the hillside looking its best. The project was then completed with the clients’ final approval and satisfaction.
